I was just wondering what cost would be needed to make a website like rapidshare or a website that allows users to upload items and share them to public. Thank you.
You guys so far are answering the hardware costs. I mean like how much would it cost for someone to *design* the site, not just the server side stuff. Thank you for your quick responses though.

The same as a normal site if you plan on not encrypting the data, being vulnerable to attacks, and not having many clients/users. If you want a site that can be as prominent as rapidshare, it may cost hundreds (0 or so for a small amount of space) of dollars a year.
Well you need alot of space for people to upload their stuff, so maybe $80 a year for hosting. You can get free hosting but its not very reliable.
And then you have to buy a file host script, which can be custom made or pre-made. They can cost alot but some are free so $0.
So the cheapest option for a file host is $0. You can set one up and put ads on it and even earn money.
