Is my music legal if I pay for a subscription to downloading sites like Rapidshare etc?

For example, I want to play music at clubs, which I have already, I want to know if the music I am playing is technically “mine” and legal to play at these venues if I am paying for a subscription at downloading websites like Rapidshare and 4Shared etc rather than buying these songs off of iTunes and Beatport.

Chosen Answer:

No, it’s not a legal download.

  1. How would I know says:

No, it’s not a legal download.

No. And since you’re making money by playing music at clubs, you are at higher risk of prosecution than someone who “shares” digital music files only for their own listening pleasure.

Those subscriptions pay the site, they do not pay the copyright owners.

IIn fact, even if you buy music from itunes or a physical CD, you do NOT have the right to play it publicly.
