I am with Sky, and I see they are one of the companies who have signed up to the new scheme. Will the ISP check every household who downloads a huge amount (for instance 30gb a month)? I read that they are mainly targetting downloads from torrents, does this mean I can continue to use rapidshare? If not, is there any way I can hide my identity from my own ISP to avoid them spotting me?
Chosen Answer:
Personnaly, I don’t really see how they can do it. With millions of customers, downloading 100′s of millions of bits of information, unsecure wireless connections, how can they keep that much information stored, I’ve been with same internet provider for years, they have a list of everything I’ve downloaded, I doubt it, besides most of it has been deleted long ago, so how can they prove it, anybody can say, well I have this list..etc. That proves nothing. How do they know someone hasn’t hacked my wireless connection? I mean internet kiddie orn freaks who hack into your connection from outside your house, the cops have to actually come and stake out your house. How many poeple are they going to have to pay to monitor this list, and who is going to pay for it, the record company? Movie companies are still making record profits, if I download somethinig watch it and like it, then i go see it in the theatre, but these days the majority of movies are only worth a free download, besides they are on TV within a year anyway. How many pirate dvds or music albumsdo you see for sale, I know I don’t see many, I mightwatch a movie on my computer, the it’s securely trashed. Besides within a year there will be some new hacker software to bypass them. It’s a battle they can’t win.
Edit: Cero,
I access this site from many different computers form all over the place, different countries internet cafes libraries, friends etc. How can thy even know it me, identity theft doesn’t just happen with wallets. The people that are fined or imprisoned are the ones with hundreds of pirated dvds, besides have you ever met anyone of these alleged people that have been fined, I haven’t. Most likely it’s just more propoganda.
