I really want to know so if i need to ill pay for it to download, so i really wanna know if paying for rapidshare and downloading on it, is illegal….
Downloading a file does NOT give you the liscense to use it. I think rapid fire knows that and is counting on people not knowing the difference. Paying for a program is NOT paying for the content. I think that companies who prey on customers who do not know or who are encouraged not to know the truth is unethical

Usually, it’s civil, not a criminal. You could get sued for a lot.
In the US in a recent case, a lady got sued for file sharingand had to pay 2,000 US for sharing 28 songs.

I do not know about Mumbai, but most major countries in the world have seen some arrests and convictions. Considering the US has indicted people as young as 12 years old for copyright infringement with possible fines of 0,000.00 US, it is being treated very seriously.

no one has ever been caught..u can use it without fear being caught..but it is still illegal
but it is better 4 u to buy the real thing in store..
I need a straightforward answer. As far as I know rapidshare make their files anonymous and unsearchable. Once again how can the RIAA catch people downloading songs when the files are not known by name?
Downloading song is NOT illegal. Most who people do download songs end up breaking the law, i will explain.
EXPLAINING THE LAW:
According to DCMA, Digital Copyright Millenium Act, it is illegal to DISTRIBUTE, SALE, MANUFACTURE copyrighted material. It does not state that having copyright material in your possession is illegal.

Why People Get Caught?
People who use sites like limewire, download music, movies, etc… The giver has now broken the law by sharing this materials with you. The reason you end up getting caught is because LIMEWIRE has a feature that enables your system to automatically share anything that have downloaded. This is where you break the law. Now you are a DISTRIBUTOR of copyrighted materials.
How not to break the law:
Limewire and other software program automatically enable the feature to share what you downloaded plus other items in your PC. You must find what your system is sharing and disable this feature within LIMEWIRE.
Example:
In recent News, a lady was sued to pay the records companies somewhere around 2 Millions Dollars. She is an idiot.. I read the full article. She was sued the first time for 0,000.00, during trial she was offered the option to settle for 00 to 00, she said NO, like 10 other people of the 30,000 active cases today. She thought she could fight breaking the law. So she lost the first case and ended up owing 0,000.
She went back and appealed the jurisdiction and the trial went back to court again, this time the records companies sued for 2.00 million dollars, however during the trial they offered to settle with her again and she turned the offer down a second time… She lost the trial again and now owes 2.00 million dollars to the records companies.
I do not advocate downloading music, because it does prevent you from purchasing music. But I do want to EDUCATE those who don’t know the laws…
Does Rapidshare offer such job positions?
No. Many people who will answer your question will proberly say Rapid Share is illigal. Rapid Share is not illigal as it only hosts them but the people who upload them onto it say put a movie torrent on there that is at the cinema, they are doing something wrong you are just the viewer not the feeder (person who put the thing on there).

I know it’s not safe to dl from bittorrent or limewire so I switched over to using Rapidshare and similar sites. Can I get caught this way? Is my ISP going to send me a letter? Will they even care? I usually don’t go over 30 GB a month.
Depends which country you are from and what is going on
In short, Rapidshare itself is not illegal, – it is just a file storage site. However if the contents of those files are copyrighted – well then this of course is illegal in the same way as bittorrent, limewire and the others
If you are not sure, then don’t take the risk.
For example: Someone uploads a file on to rapidshare, and I want to see who uploaded the file onto rapidshare. Is there any way I could find that out?

no, there is no way. Rapidshare has not even announced if they are saving uploader-IPs, but as files get frequently blocked for “illegal content” and nobody so far was sued I guess they don’t. So, well, as they don’t save the IP and/or don’t even give it to multimillion dollar industry representatives I guess the chances that you can find it out are quite minor.
Also, the IP won’t tell you much anyway, despite the provider and area where a person lives, as most people have a new IP every day (namely: every time you (re)connect, e.g. through turning off your router).
Sorry, but good luck. In the end, if you got a link somehow and want to find out where it comes from ask around the person who sent it to you… that’s as far as I see the only way to find it.
I know downloading copyrighted work for free is illegal, but how high are the chances of getting caught downloading software on specifically rapidshare?
they have monthly random checks for most of those files, by the gov’t and if they monitor that your computer accessed this imformation, they can retrieve your ip address, and find out where you live, and bust you, jsut becarefull and dont be cuaght during that time of the month.
